Desmond C. “Des” Shenberger, 86, of Manheim, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Harry and Esther Frey Shenberger. Des was the loving husband of Vilma Frey Shenberger, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage last May. After graduating from Manheim Central High School, he served as a communication specialist for the Navy during WWII. He worked in management at the former Raymark Industries, Manheim, and then part-time for the Manheim Medical Center. He was a 50 year member of Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim and attended Manheim Brethren In Christ Church. Des was a Manheim Barons fan and enjoyed reading, golfing, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Barry C. husband of Brenda Bolin Shenberger, a daughter, Donna Gatchell, both of Manheim; six grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Zach, Jordan, Tyler, and Colby; and two great grandchildren, Riley and Tristan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack R. Shenberger and sister Jean D. Shenberger.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Manheim Brethren In Christ Church, 54 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bill Melone officiating. Interment in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a public viewing at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Please omit flowers.
