Dean R. Sobon, 53, of Lititz, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, actor, theater director and teacher died peacefully with his wife by his side at the Lancaster General Hospital on Monday, December 18, 2023. Born in Somerville, NJ, he was the son of Joan Petruska Sobon of Duarte, CA, and the late Walter J. Sobon. Dean was the loving husband of Lauren Loercher Sobon. He grew up in Manville, NJ and attended Manville High School and graduated from the renowned American Musical And Dramatic Academy/AMDA College of The Performing Arts in New York City and resided in New York and New Jersey before settling in Lititz, PA.
Dean was a well known and respected figure both locally and nationally in the Theater Arts Community. Upon his graduation from AMDA, he embarked on a successful career as a theater actor touring across the US, Canada, Europe and Taiwan before expanding his creative role to Direction and Theatre Educator. He worked professionally with Prather Productions locally, nationally and Internationally, the Fulton Theatre and directed school productions for The Warwick School District. Dean’s main theater focus and passion for his many acclaimed productions and award winning directing career was to be a “Story Teller” who guided an audience on a theatrical journey. He also looked for humor in everything he directed which is hardly surprising given his reputation among most of his acquaintances as the funniest guy they knew. He loved collaborating with his fellow creatives and actors and was happiest when teaching the next generation of artists.
Dean enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, hiking, and fishing and exploring the gorgeous landscape of Lancaster County. He loved music, cooking and shopping at his favorite grocery store and locally owned shops. He had a soft spot for animals of all kinds. His dogs Ollie and Tabasco and cats Teddy and Nicely will surely miss him. Anyone who knew Dean knows he was a big personality. You knew when he came into a room. He was incredibly funny, refreshingly genuine, and a super likable extrovert with a deep love for his family, a strong devotion to his many friends and possessed a seemingly unparalleled, enthusiastic dedication to his profession. He was a strong, positive and unique creative force who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Lauren and daughter Piper Abrielle Sobon both of Lititz, PA, his mother Joan of Duarte, CA, his sister Jill Guth of Somerville, NJ, his brother Scott Sobon of Easton, PA and his brother Douglas Sobon and his wife Alexandra Kaminski of Duarte, CA.
A Life Celebration will be held at The Tied House, 27 East Main St Lititz, PA on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 2pm.
