D. Jean Zurin

April 8, 1926 — September 8, 2016

D. Jean Zurin, 90, of 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in East Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Elam W. and Esther Martin Hollinger. She was the wife of the late Samuel L. “Sam” Zurin who died in 2011. Jean worked for and retired from S. Clyde Weaver Inc, East Petersburg for over fifty years. She graduated from the former East Hempfield High School in 1944. Jean was an active and faithful member of Hempfield Church of the Brethren where she was a lifetime Deaconess. She was also a member of Farm Women #5.
Her greatest enjoyment in life was when she watched her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean also loved to play cards and bake cookies.

Surviving is a daughter, Carol L. wife of Leon Koser of Manheim, two sons, S. Keith husband of Marjorie Straub Zurin of Manheim, Kevin L. husband of Sue Oberholtzer Zurin of Mount Joy, daughter-in-law, June L. Balmer Zurin of Lewes, Delaware, 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth E. Zurin and ten siblings, Frances Mummau, Miriam Charles Weaver, J. Lloyd Hollinger, Blanche Miller, Lester Hollinger, Harold “Tom” Hollinger, Esther Shelly, Matora “Torie” Hostetter, Elam Hollinger Jr. and Corinne Nissley.

The family wishes to thank the Village Manor staff of Brethren Village for the excellent care provided for Jean.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, corner of Stevens Street and Metzler Road, East Petersburg on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Salunga Brethren Cemetery.
