Clayton F. Gruber, 84, of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday October 6, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Mary J. (Merkey) Gruber and they would have celebrated 57 years of marriage in November. Born in Manheim, he was the son of Norman and Mary (Fry) Gruber. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Clayton was employed at E.E. Shenk & Sons of Manheim before retiring in 1983, and then worked as a driver for Kegel Produce of Lancaster. Clayton was a member of Milton Grove United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He enjoyed walking and watching people, and traveling with his wife to Virginia to listen to gospel music.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary are two sons Dale husband of Mary Gruber, Lebanon, Jay husband of Sue Gruber, Mount Joy; three daughters Darlene wife of James Hutchison, Elizabethtown, Charlene Gruber, Lancaster, Marlene Gruber, Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three brothers Roy Gruber, Manheim, Raymond Gruber, Mount Joy, Elmer Gruber, Bainbridge; and two sisters Ruth Snyder, Elizabethtown and Edna Tyson, Palmyra.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Milton Grove United Methodist Church, 2026 Cloverleaf Road, Mount Joy PA on Thursday October 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM. There will be a public viewing at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Milton Grove Cemetery.
