Charles W. "Charlie" Smith, 72, of Manheim died at home with his family on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Born in Keyser, West Virginia he was the son of the late Luther and Helen Rogers Smith. A truck driver for many years Charlie retired from Yellow Freight Lancaster; previously he worked for Cooper Jarrett in Milton. He was the loving husband of Mary Ann Snyder Smith and they observed their 43rd wedding anniversary in November of last year. Charlie was a member of the Teamsters Union 771 and the Germania Band Club of Manheim. His interests included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He had a life-long passion for his family and enjoyed activities with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters: Rhonda wife of Carder Jones of Moorefield, W.V., Regina Lane, Renda Smith both of Rogers, Ky., Beth wife of Dr. Joseph Gabriel of San Antonio, TX., a son, Robert Smith of Richmond, VA., 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a brother, Vaughn husband of Sheree Smith of Elkton, MD., and four sisters: Leona wife of William Bennett of Mt. Storm, W.V., Arlene Elliott, of Petersburg, W.V., Neva Smith and Linda wife of Carson Rogers both of Keyser, W.V. Preceding him in death are two brothers: Luther and Donald Smith. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
