Charles W. “Chuck” Long, 78, of Manheim, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lebanon, following a lengthy illness. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Myrl Showers Long. Chuck was the loving husband of Judith A. Weidenhammer Long and they observed their 55th wedding anniversary in June of last year. He was a supervisor for over 30 years for the former United Plastics Incorporated, Manheim. Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force. Chuck was an active and faithful member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim, where he had served on the building committee and church council. He volunteered for the Manheim Veterans Memorial Ambulance Association and the Landis Valley Farm Museum. His interests included vegetable gardening and rooting for his favorite teams the New York Giants, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: David M. husband of Nickiann Long of Ephrata, Richard C. Long of Fresno, CA., a daughter, Elizabeth C. wife of J. Greg Mensch of Manheim, two grandsons: Jason Long, Preston Mensch, a brother, Paul Long of Wernersville, and a sister, Betty wife of Charles Wurst of Reading.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Chuck’s memory to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 2 South Hazel Street, Manheim, PA 17545
