Charles A. "Charlie" Ober

Charles A. Charlie Ober, 85, of 105 Fruitville Pike Manheim, died peacefully following a lengthy illness on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Pleasant View Retirement Community Manheim.
Born in Penn Township, he was the son of the late Monroe P. and Edna Mae Shenenberger Ober.
In 1985 Charlie retired from the former Raymark Industries Manheim where he was the supervisor of the Order, Billing, and Accounts Payable Departments for forty-two years. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II in the Pacific Theater. He was the loving husband for fifty-seven years of the late Elizabeth G. Betty White Ober who died in May of 2008. His first wife was the late Reda Mae Kise Ober who died in 1949. Charlie was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ Manheim and served on the Consistory of the church and helped as an usher in his early years. He was also a member of the Manheim V.F.W. Post 5956, a life member of the Manheim American Legion Post 419, the Manheim Sportsmen Association and a very active and faithful member of the Manheim Lions Club for over fifty years where he served as secretary for many years and president. In 1979 Charlie was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions Club International for service to Lionism. Charlie had a passion for the game of Golf and was a passionate fan cheering for his favorite baseball team the St. Louis Cardinals. Other interests included: bowling, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving is a daughter, Gail E. Ober of Manheim, two nephews: David husband of Jill Ludwig of Lititz and Bruce Ludwig of Manheim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from St. Pauls United Church of Christ 50 North Main Street Manheim on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Pastor William J. LaSalle officiating. Interment will be private in Penryn Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
