Carolyn W. Adkins, 80, of Lancaster, PA and formerly of Dayton and Troy, OH, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Born in Lexington, KY on July 8, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Eddie V. and Fannie Bell (Eades) Lamb. She was a 1955 graduate of Miami Central High School, Troy, OH. Carolyn was the loving wife of Gerald R. Adkins and they observed their 60th wedding anniversary in June of last year. Prior to her retirement she worked in the office for Glick’s Audio and Video Company. Throughout the years Carolyn was very active with Christian Women’s Club. A Christian soloist and composer, Carolyn was involved in music ministry in Ohio for over 10 years working with accompanists Esther Dean and Thelma Price. Carolyn wrote the music and lyrics to several Christian songs including “Fear Not Tomorrow,” most recently recorded by the Collingsworth Family. She appeared on the local Dayton, OH television program “Good Ship Zion” and released her own Christian music album. Carolyn’s life-long passions were her faith and family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving in addition to her husband Gerald, are two daughters: Cindy Rae, wife of David Matthews of Horsham, PA; Dr. Cherie Sue Adkins of Mount Joy, PA; three grandsons: Jonathan, Andrew (wife Bonnie), and Tyler Matthews; four great grandchildren: William, Annie, Laurie Rae, and Emmy Matthews; and three sisters: Celia Saunders of Beech Grove, IN, Colleen Davis of Westfield, IN, and Janie Cunningham (husband Michael) of Cincinnati, OH. Preceding her in death are two sisters and two brothers.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Carolyn’s Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at the Buch Funeral Home, 216 South Broad Street, Lititz, PA on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Witness Park, Lititz, PA.
