Carl H. Lehman

October 22, 1935 — March 10, 2018

Carl H. Lehman, 82, of Lititz, and formerly of Stevens Street, East Petersburg, died peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018 following a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in York, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Anna M. Landis Lehman. Carl was the loving husband of Ella Mae “Ellie” Lehman and they observed their 55th wedding anniversary in October of last year.

In his early years Carl worked picking strawberries and tomatoes as a boy, later he was employed in a pajama factory, and then worked a short time in construction. In 1953 Carl graduated from William Penn High School, he continued his education by attending Messiah College for two years, and then attended and completed his training at Lancaster General Hospital School as a Registered Technologist, in X-Ray Technology. For over 32 years Carl worked as an X-Ray technologist at Lancaster General Hospital. In 1994 Carl received a letter of appreciation and recognition from the Lancaster Radiology Associates for his role as Director and later Instructor at the Lancaster General Hospital Department of Radiology for his positive influence and motivation of a large number of young people in the field of Radiology. He also received recognition of Distinguish Service for his continuous service, loyalty, and dedication to Lancaster General Hospital from November 1, 1962 to May 5, 1994. Carl was known for his professionalism and caring for patients in skilled care homes as he provided outpatient portable X-Rays. After retiring in 1994 from the hospital, he worked in Redner’s Deli for seven years.

Carl was a faithful and active member of the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, East Petersburg; where he had served as chair of the stewardship committee, a Deacon, and sang in the church choir. Music was very important in his life, both listening and performing. In addition to the church choir, Carl was a member of two choirs at Brethren Village, the Wesley Singers, former member of the Grantham Oratorio Singers, and the mass choir at Mount Gretna. Carl’s interests included: photography, reading, crosswords, gardening, Counted Cross Stitch, Crewel Embroidery, summer vacations at the shore, traveling especially to Europe, and attending the Theatre. He had a deep passion for his family, a caring heart to help others, and a love for God and the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife Ellie, are two daughters: Lisa A. wife of Ronald J. “Jeff” Greener of Lancaster, Kristine L. wife of Mark A. Ricketts of Reading, three granddaughters: Monica McMinn, Mackenzie Ricketts, Campbell Ricketts, two brothers: Robert L. husband of Patricia Lehman of Mechanicsburg, and Lamar E. Lehman of Columbia.
