C. David Landis, 79, formerly of Lititz, died peacefully on Thursday May 7th at Pleasant View Retirement Community where he was an independent living resident for the past 10 years. Born in Lancaster, he was son of the late Clarence R. and Mary Huber Landis. He was the loving husband of Shirley Hollinger Landis with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He was a graduate of Lititz High School and went to work for his parents in their poultry business soon after graduation. Shortly after they were married, Dave and Shirley served 2 years in Portland ME with Mennonite Volunteer Service. They returned home and moved to a farm north of Lititz where they raised four boys and owned and operated the family business, Landis Poultry until their retirement in 2005. Dave was a member of Lititz Church of the Brethren where he taught Sunday school. He enjoyed his collection of model trains in his retirement and sharing his passion with friends and neighbors. He served as Judge of Elections in the Brunnerville District for many years plus as a Warwick School Board Director from 1980-1984.
Surviving in addition to his wife Shirley, are four sons: David J (Katie) of Lilburn, GA; Philip G (Brooke) of Philadelphia; Michael R (Pat) of Lititz; and Donald H (Beth) of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Andrew, Zachary & Ben Landis; Shane, Jordan Landis & Kayley Stoner; Julia & Caroline Landis. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was an older sister Betsy Elizabeth Durborow.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dave's Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance, in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Friday May 15, 2015 at 7:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family in the Hoffer Auditorium on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Dave’s memory to the Pleasant View Retirement Community Benevolent Care Endowment Fund, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
