Betty Jo Heisey

Betty Jo Heisey, formerly of Penryn and Manheim, was called to her eternal Home on January 5, 2015. She was the loving wife of Wallace R. Heisey who passed away on June 23rd, 2004. Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of William H. and Bessie Salmon.
Betty Jo was a caring, compassionate person with a servant's heart. She was a humble and dynamic prayer warrior and her love for the Lord was evident in everything she did. Her life's accomplishments, each lovingly given for the glory of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, speak of what was important to her. Whether it was raising their four children or teaching Sunday school, which was her joy and ministry for many years, her focus was always on quietly helping others.
She grew up in Canton, Ohio, where she attended nursing school. She met Wally on a train to New York prior to his being shipped overseas during World War II. They married after the war and raised their family in Manheim. She is remembered for all that she did for people in need, like baking bread for all her neighbors after a snow storm, providing meals to homeless people , sewing repairs of every type, and a steady flow of acts of kindness. Her caring for others included being a Welcome Wagon hostess in the 60’s, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, grocery shopping for residents at Pleasant View for many years and actively visiting and supporting Casa Ray orphanage in Romania (through Reach Ministries) in her mid-80’s. She was featured in the Lancaster newspapers for her service to others. Betty Jo and Wally received the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award in 1995. She somehow found time throughout her married life to be a dedicated camper with the Ramblin’ Roses and an avid bridge player, playing even into her 90’s.

Surviving are four children, Gregory Lee husband of Anne Huber Heisey of Ronks, Michael Ray husband of Mary Hoffert Heisey of Millersville, Linda Jo wife of Thomas Goshorn of Lititz, Steven W. husband of Carol Kahler Heisey of Lancaster, ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Ann Salmon of Lititz. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Salmon.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Jerusalem Church, 1620 Newport Road, Manheim (In the village of Penryn) on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment in Penryn Cemetery.
