Betty Jane Bender

Our mom and grandmother, Betty Jane Bender, 90, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Margaret Gainer Beck. She was the loving wife of the late Richard D. Bender, who died in 1987.

She was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rothsville, and a sales clerk at Doneckers in Ephrata.

Betty’s greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. Her house was known to be her favorite place, which she made into a happy home for her family. Mom will be forever missed by all of us.

Betty was a collector of many things and she enjoyed caring for her vegetable and flower gardens. Through the years, Betty used her “Do-It-Yourself” skills to repair things that were broken and made them useful again. She liked to crochet and was an avid sewer, making many quilts.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Bender Jr. of Lititz, Robert Bender husband of Jo Ann Wolf, of York; a daughter, Dorothy “Dottie” Zimmerman of Lititz; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and four sisters, Lillian Logeman and Mildred Stitt, both of Lititz, Miriam Farlow of Ephrata, and Mae Johnson, of OH.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Betty’s funeral service at the Buch- Heisey Funeral Home, 216 South Broad Street, Lititz, on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Rothsville Lutheran Cemetery.
