Formerly of Manheim, beloved son, dear friend, and traveler of the World, Bertram E. Fetter passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 19, 2012 in Arcadia, CA. Bertram, "Bert" or "Uncle Bertie", as he was known by most, will be remembered for his vivacious, kind and charming personality. He was born in Manheim, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1921 to Elwood and Lena Barthold Fetter. Bert and his family were members of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim. He graduated from the former Manheim High School in 1939, was the editor of the school paper, and later that year went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He relocated to Pasadena, California in the early 1950's. He was the President of the Euclid Gardens Association for the greater part of his 56 years of residency there. He worked for Xerox Corp. Electro Optical Systems for 32 years, before he retired in 1990. Upon his retirement, Bert spent many years traveling around the World, exploring the many marvels of the seven Continents. He spent time in the Ancient Ruins of Egypt, ventured with the wild animals of Africa, and walked on ice with the Penguins in Antarctica. He shared stories and pictures of the places he visited in Europe"Budapest, Berlin, Barcelona, Amsterdam. He spent hours talking of the wonders of Asia, Tokyo, Beijing, Delhi, Manila, Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea, and of course, the Great Wall of China. He made a plethora of friends throughout his travels, so many of which he remained in close contact with, for decades. Bert would travel East every year to Manheim and Lancaster County so that he could attend his high school reunion and catch up with his classmates. During his high school years he was known for his wit, was the class comedian and had keen interest in "pretty girls" cars, and travel. He is predeceased by his father, mother and aunt Helen Baumgardner. Goodbye good friend, "Uncle Bertie", Bert. We love you. His spirit and heart will be missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his graveside service at the Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Sun Hill Road, Manheim, on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10:00 AM.
