Bernard C. “Ben” Heim, 82, of Manheim, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Reginald and Edna Carver Heim. Ben was the loving husband of Margaret Ann ”Peggy” Light Heim and they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in June of this year. He worked for Washington National Insurance Company, and later retired from Hursh Painting Company. Ben served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and was a prayer leader. He also attended Faith Bible Fellowship Church in Lancaster. Ben enjoyed woodworking and making bird houses. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin in Huntingdon County. He was a 1949 graduate of Lebanon High School, and was a Cubmaster for Scouts in the East Petersburg Area.
Surviving in addition to his wife Peggy, are three children: a daughter, Jodie L. wife of Gary Sather of Mountville, two sons, Bernard G. “Ben” husband of Denise Herr Heim of Elizabethtown, Jonathan G. husband of Shannon Bortner Heim of Marietta, five grandchildren: Jayson Heim, Eric Sather, Matthew Sather, Austin Heim, Aubree Heim, and a sister, Mary Jane Carpenter of Annville. Preceding him in death is a great grandson, Jonathan Mockus-Sather and two brothers: Guy and Allen Heim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10:30 AM. There will no viewing or visitation prior to or after the service. Interment will be held in Kreider’s Brethren Cemetery.
