Barbara Ann Demarest

Barbara Ann Demarest, 86, of Akron and Ephrata and formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., died peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Isabelle Reichert Russell. Barbara worked many years as a Travel Agent in New York City. Her interests included gardening of all types, both flower and vegetable. Barbara was an advocate for all animals which she loved dearly. Throughout her lifetime she would defend and support those of society that people would forget or pass by; quietly championing those that were in the greatest need and being a modern “Good Samaritan”.

Surviving is a daughter, Mary L. DiPaolo of Ephrata, four grandchildren: Jessica Borsje, Brianna wife of Phillip Zimmerman, Etienne Michel husband of Jessica DiPaolo, Stephane Eric DiPaolo, three great grandsons, and a sister, Isabelle Muth of Connecticut. Preceding her in death is a son-in-law, Paul-Michel P. DiPaolo.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Rheems Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Personal Care Department, and to Hospice and Community Care, for the compassionate care, helpfulness, and kindness shown to Barbara during her illness.

Services for Barbara will be private and at the convenience of the family.
