B. Joanne Shenberger

B. Joanne Shenberger, 79, of Lancaster, died peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Paul V. and Viola Zimmerman Bishop. She was the loving wife of Kenneth B. Shenberger and they observed their 58th wedding anniversary in October of last year. Joanne was an active and faithful member of Church of the Apostles UCC, Lancaster, where she organized the annual church garage sale, was instrumental in the church bake sale and lovingly cared for the church outdoor gardens with her husband. Joanne was also known for creating hand-sewn teddy bears that were given to children during church baptisms.

Joanne was a 1956 graduate of Manheim Township High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a 1959 graduate of Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. Early in her career she was employed as a registered nurse in labor and delivery for Lancaster General Hospital, and she most recently worked as a charge nurse at Homestead Village until her retirement. Joanne enjoyed sewing, baking, music, doll collecting and nature photography.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Kenneth, are two sons, David M. husband of Beverly Shenberger, Ocoee, TN; Jeffrey S. husband of Diane Shenberger, Haydenville, MA; a daughter, Tamara L. wife of David Guo, Cranberry Township, PA; four grandchildren, Elyse, Nicholas, Anastasia, Michael; and a sister, Judy Jarvis, Lancaster. Preceding her in death is a brother, Paul Bishop.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joanne’s Celebration of Life at the Church of the Apostles UCC, 1850 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Joanne’s memory to Church of the Apostles UCC, 1850 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603.
