Aulay P. Tompkins, 89, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Hershey and Reading, died Thursday December 22, 2011 at the Masonic Village Health Care Center, Elizabethtown. He was the husband of Isabel (Hartman) Tompkins of Elizabethtown. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Aulay P. Sr. and Ruth (Moyer) Tompkins. He was a retired auditor for New Holland Machine Co. of New Holland, PA. Aulay was a graduate of Reading High School and the Wharton School of Business, class of 1949, of Philadelphia. Aulay proudly served his country during WW II as a Tank Destroyer driver of the 703rd Tank Destroyer Battalian of the 3rd Armored Infantry Division from the breakout from the Normandy Beachhead through the liberation of France, Belgium, the Battle of the Bulge, and into Germany until VE day. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, West Lawn, the Brownstone Lodge # 666 F & AM of Hershey, and the Remote Control Airplane Club at Masonic Village. His job provided him the opportunity to travel the world, of which he had wonderful memories. In addition to his family, he took great pleasure in working with investments. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son Gary husband of Susan Tompkins of Spring Twp., a daughter Ann wife of Ray Kent of Lebanon, three grandchildren Kelly, Laura, & Gregory, three great-granddaughters, and a brother Floyd Tompkins of Roanoke VA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Meditation Chapel, Roosevelt Building, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment on Monday January 9th will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
