Arlene Herneisen, 90, a long time resident of Penn Township, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County. She was born August 29, 1919, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Margorie Baker Heisey. Arlene was the loving wife of the late Harold E. Herneisen, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage.
Arlene graduated from the former Manheim High School class of 1937. She was a homemaker, and worked at the Manheim Auto Auction for many years, retiring in 2007. Arlene was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim. She will be remembered for her many years of monthly visits to Pleasant View Retirement Community Manheim, to support her friends. Arlenes passion for life was extended to traveling, gardening, spending time with her extended family and her special friendships. Her laughter, wisdom, and hospitality for others will be deeply missed.
Surviving is her daughter, Patricia Ann wife of Darl L. Startzell of Lititz, her son, H. Donald husband of Catherine Pickel Herneisen of Lancaster, three grandchildren: Susan J. Startzell, a medical missionary serving in Mufraq, Jordan, as well as Jonathan H. Herneisen and Alice L. Herneisen all from Lancaster.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service from the Salem United Methodist Church 140 North Penn Street Manheim, on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Richard W. Conner officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Sunday evening, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM with additional viewing at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
