Alvin H. Mellinger, 89, of Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster, passed away on Sunday June 10, 2012 at The Mennonite Home, Lancaster. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Henry and Emma Hostetter Mellinger. Alvin retired from the former Donegal Industries, Inc. of Mount Joy in 1992 after being employed for 20+ years. Alvin was an active lifetime member of Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Joy, where he worked part-time for 10 years as a custodian. He was a Member of the Mount Joy Leisure Club, and the Landisville Senior Citizens. Alvin enjoyed participating in the annual Senior Games, and enjoyed swimming, bicycling, and going on various day trips. Surviving are three brothers, John husband of Rhoda Mellinger of Lancaster, Harold husband of Nancy Mellinger, and Glenn husband of Kathy Mellinger, both of Mount Joy; three sisters, Anna Grove of Shippensburg, Dorothy wife of J. Milton Byers of Lancaster, Esther Musser of Mount Joy; and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Mellinger Gish. The family would like to thank the staffs at Woodcrest Villa, Wissler Run at The Mennonite Home, Hospice of Lancaster County and good friend Peg Walz, for their care and concern for Alvin during his life and brief illness. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Alvin's service at Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church, 800 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, PA on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a public viewing on Thursday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
