Alfred R. "Al" Schademan, 80, of Mount Joy, died peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his family, on Monday March 14, 2011. Born in Carrick, PA he was the son of the late John G. Sr. and Ellen Connors Schademan. He was the husband of Rhoda Berkenheiser Schademan, and they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this Saturday. Al was a maintenance mechanic at Alumax of Lancaster for 27 years before retiring in 1992. Alfred proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a sergeant. He was a member of Chiques United Methodist Church of Mount Joy, American Legion Post 0945 of Harrisburg, VFW Post 5956 of Manheim, and the Alumax Retiree Assoc. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing near his cabin in Potter County, and watching his children play sports. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, George A. husband of Andrea Meagher Schademan of Brunswick, ME, Harvey T. husband of Stephanie Preskins Schademan of Marietta, Alfred R. Jr., husband of Jeanne Bradford Schademan of Chico, CA; six grandchildren Ken Hertz, Jr., Kelly Hertz Goins, Jeremy, Emily, Mollie and Connor Schademan; three great grandchildren; a brother Fred husband of Rhoda Schademan of Jefferson Hills, PA, and a sister Elaine wife of Bernie Lake of Largo, FL. He was preceded in death by a daughter Debra Ann, and two brothers John G. and Delmar L. Schademan. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Friday March 18, 2011 at the Chiques United Methodist Church, 1215 E. Main St. Mount Joy at 11 A.M. Interment with military honors will be in Mount Joy Cemetery. There will be a public viewing on Thursday at the Heilig Funeral Home, 21 W. Main St. Mount Joy from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., and also on Friday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
