Albert A. "Al" Griest, Sr., 82, of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday July 10, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. Born in Little Britain, PA he was the son of the late Lester E. and Bessie (Elville) Griest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Connie Lee Henry. Albert has four children surviving, Linda S. wife of Tom Ibach of Mount Joy, Albert A. Jr. husband of Lynne Griest of Airville, Sherry L. wife of Galen Derr of Holtwood, and Jacqueline wife of Terry Weber of Maytown. He was "Pawdaddy" and "Grandpa" to thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Albert was one of thirteen children with sisters Naomi England of Nottingham, Ardythe Gaus of New Providence, and Louise Davis of Holtwood still surviving. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, of Middletown, where his bubbly personality would delight the congregation as he greeted them at the door mostly every Sunday. An avid outdoorsman he loved hunting and fishing. The true art of fishing from making the lures to filleting the catch and his homemade recipes were well known. Al also enjoyed league bowling for the Charles Chips Bowling League and his stories of 274 averages were told. Trophies of his days afield adorned his house, and he also enjoyed writing poetry. Albert was employed for 16 years at the Masonic Villages at Elizabethtown. Service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
